Damariscotta, Maine is a picturesque midcoast
village along the Damariscotta River. Located an hour north of
Portland, this New England coastal town with century-old homes
along tree-lined streets celebrated its 150 th anniversary in
1998. The tidal Damariscotta River, beautiful lakes, serene ponds,
and rocky coastline shape the landscape. What began as a thriving
shipbuilding area has given way to a diversified economy. Lobstering
and fishing remain very important, but other endeavors have
made the midcoast a popular place to live. Recent years have
seen a slight increase in area population, attesting not only
to the area’s
beauty, but also to the accepting nature of those lucky enough
to live here.
